Fuel Economy and Range

The 370Z has 6.6 gallons more fuel capacity than the Civic Si (19 vs. 12.4 gallons), for longer range between fill-ups.

Transmission

The 370Z offers an optional automatic transmission, for driver comfort, especially in the city. The Civic Si doesn’t offer an automatic transmission.

The Nissan 370Z Sport/NISMO manual has a downshift rev synchronizer that automatically raises engine speed to make downshifts perfectly smooth. This keeps the car from lurching during downshifts, preventing loss of control during cornering. The Civic Si doesn’t offer a downshift rev synchronizer.

For better traction, the 370Z NISMO’s tires are larger than the largest tires available on the Civic Si (F:245/40R19 & R:285/35R19 vs. 235/40R18).

The 370Z has a standard space-saver spare tire so you can replace a flat tire and drive to have the flat repaired or replaced. A spare tire isn’t available on the Civic Si; it requires you to depend on roadside assistance and your vehicle will have to be towed.

Suspension and Handling

The 370Z’s front to rear weight distribution is more even (54.3% to 45.7%) than the Civic Si’s (60.3% to 39.7%). This gives the 370Z more stable handling and braking.

The 370Z NISMO handles at .99 G’s, while the Civic Si Coupe pulls only .97 G’s of cornering force in a Car and Driver skidpad test.

For better maneuverability, the 370Z’s turning circle is 5 feet tighter than the Civic Si’s (32.8 feet vs. 37.8 feet). The 370Z Sport/NISMO’s turning circle is 3.7 feet tighter than the Civic Si’s (34.1 feet vs. 37.8 feet).

Chassis

The 370Z is 9.9 inches shorter than the Civic Si Coupe, making the 370Z easier to handle, maneuver and park in tight spaces.

The 370Z Sport/Sport Touring/NISMO/50th Anniversary Edition uses computer-generated active noise cancellation to help remove annoying noise and vibration from the passenger compartment, especially at low frequencies. The Civic Si doesn’t offer active noise cancellation.

As tested by Car and Driver while under full throttle, the interior of the 370Z is quieter than the Civic Si Coupe (82 vs. 84 dB).

Passenger Space

The 370Z has 1.7 inches more front headroom, .6 inches more front legroom and .5 inches more front hip room than the Civic Si Coupe.

Cargo Capacity

A standard locking glovebox (which can’t be accessed with the valet key) keeps your small valuables safer in the 370Z. The Civic Si doesn’t offer locking storage for small valuables.

Servicing Ease

The engine in the 370Z is mounted longitudinally (North-South), instead of sideways, as in the Civic Si. This makes it easier to service and maintain, because the accessory belts are in front.

Ergonomics

Consumer Reports rated the 370Z’s headlight performance “Very Good,” a higher rating than the Civic Si’s headlights, which were rated “Fair.”

The 370Z Sport Touring/NISMO’s standard GPS navigation system has a real-time traffic update feature that plots alternative routes to automatically bypass traffic problems. (Service not available in all areas.) The Civic Si’s available navigation system doesn’t offer real-time traffic updates.

Economic Advantages

Insurance will cost less for the 370Z owner. The Car Book by Jack Gillis rates the 370Z with a number “3” insurance rate while the Civic Si is rated higher at a number “10” rate.

According to The Car Book by Jack Gillis, the 370Z is less expensive to operate than the Civic Si because typical repairs cost less on the 370Z than the Civic Si, including $144 less for a starter and $24 less for a fuel pump.

Consumer Reports? recommends both the Nissan 370Z and the Honda Civic Si, based on reliability, safety and performance.
