Tires and Wheels

For better traction, the Range Rover Evoque has larger standard tires than the X3 (235/60R18 vs. 225/60R18).

Suspension and Handling

For better maneuverability, the Range Rover Evoque’s turning circle is 1.3 feet tighter than the X3 xDrive30i’s (38.1 feet vs. 39.4 feet). The Range Rover Evoque’s turning circle is 1.6 feet tighter than the X3 M40i’s (38.1 feet vs. 39.7 feet).

For greater off-road capability the Range Rover Evoque has a greater minimum ground clearance than the X3 (8.3 vs. 8 inches), allowing the Range Rover Evoque to travel over rougher terrain without being stopped or damaged.

Chassis

The Range Rover Evoque is 1 foot, 1.8 inches shorter than the X3, making the Range Rover Evoque easier to handle, maneuver and park in tight spaces.

Cargo Capacity

To make loading groceries and cargo easier when your hands are full, the Range Rover Evoque’s available liftgate can be opened and closed just by kicking your foot under the back bumper, leaving your hands completely free. The X3 doesn’t offer a hands-free gesture to open its liftgate, forcing you to put cargo down if your hands are full.

Ergonomics

The Range Rover Evoque has a standard remote vehicle starting system, so the vehicle can be started from inside the driver's house. This allows the driver to comfortably warm up the engine before going out to the vehicle. The climate system will also automatically heat or cool the interior. The X3 doesn’t offer a remote starting system.

Unlike the driver-only memory system in the X3, the Range Rover Evoque offers an optional driver and passenger memory, so that when drivers switch, the memory setting adjusts the driver’s seat, steering wheel position and outside mirror angle and the front passenger seat also adjusts to the new passenger’s preset preferences.

The Range Rover Evoque’s optional easy entry system raises the steering wheel and glides the driver’s seat back when the door is unlocked or the ignition is switched off, making it easier for the driver to get in and out. The X3 doesn’t offer an easy entry system.

Heated windshield washer nozzles are optional on the Range Rover Evoque to prevent washer fluid and nozzles from freezing and help continue to keep the windshield clear in sub-freezing temperatures. The X3 doesn’t offer heated windshield washer nozzles.

To improve rear visibility by keeping the rear window clear, the Range Rover Evoque has a standard rear fixed intermittent wiper with a full on position. The rear wiper standard on the X3 only has an intermittent setting, so in a hard rain visibility isn’t as good.

In poor weather, headlights can lose their effectiveness as grime builds up on their lenses. This can reduce visibility without the driver realizing. The Range Rover Evoque offers available headlight washers to keep headlight output high. The X3 doesn’t offer headlight washers.

Optional air-conditioned seats in the Range Rover Evoque HSE keep the driver and front passenger comfortable and take the sting out of hot seats in summer. The X3 doesn’t offer air-conditioned seats.

Economic Advantages

Insurance will cost less for the Range Rover Evoque owner. The Car Book by Jack Gillis rates the Range Rover Evoque with a number “3” insurance rate while the X3 is rated higher at a number “5” rate.

According to The Car Book by Jack Gillis, the Range Rover Evoque is less expensive to operate than the X3 because it costs $390 less to do the manufacturer’s suggested maintenance for 50,000 miles. Typical repairs cost much less on the Range Rover Evoque than the X3, including $578 less for a water pump, $470 less for a muffler, $155 less for a starter, $24 less for fuel injection, $463 less for a timing belt/chain and $1178 less for a power steering pump.
