Tires and Wheels

For better traction, the Range Rover Evoque has larger standard tires than the X1 (235/60R18 vs. 225/50R18). The Range Rover Evoque’s optional tires are larger than the largest tires available on the X1 (245/45R21 vs. 225/50R18).

For better ride, handling and brake cooling the Range Rover Evoque offers optional 21-inch wheels. The X1’s largest wheels are only 19-inches.

Suspension and Handling

The Range Rover Evoque offers an optional driver-adjustable suspension system. It allows the driver to choose between an extra-supple ride, reducing fatigue on long trips, or a sport setting, which allows maximum control for tricky roads or off-road. The X1’s suspension doesn’t offer adjustable shock absorbers.

For better handling and stability, the track (width between the wheels) on the Range Rover Evoque is 2.5 inches wider in the front and 2.6 inches wider in the rear than on the X1.

For greater off-road capability the Range Rover Evoque has a 1.1 inches greater minimum ground clearance than the X1 (8.3 vs. 7.2 inches), allowing the Range Rover Evoque to travel over rougher terrain without being stopped or damaged.

Chassis

The Range Rover Evoque is 3.3 inches shorter than the X1, making the Range Rover Evoque easier to handle, maneuver and park in tight spaces.

Passenger Space

The Range Rover Evoque has 1 inch more front shoulder room and .2 inches more rear shoulder room than the X1.

Towing

The Range Rover Evoque has a 3968 lbs. towing capacity. The X1 has no towing capacity.

Ergonomics

The Range Rover Evoque has a standard remote vehicle starting system, so the vehicle can be started from inside the driver's house. This allows the driver to comfortably warm up the engine before going out to the vehicle. The climate system will also automatically heat or cool the interior. The X1 doesn’t offer a remote starting system.

Unlike the driver-only memory system in the X1, the Range Rover Evoque offers an optional driver and passenger memory, so that when drivers switch, the memory setting adjusts the driver’s seat, steering wheel position and outside mirror angle and the front passenger seat also adjusts to the new passenger’s preset preferences.

The Range Rover Evoque’s optional easy entry system raises the steering wheel and glides the driver’s seat back when the door is unlocked or the ignition is switched off, making it easier for the driver to get in and out. The X1 doesn’t offer an easy entry system.

Heated windshield washer nozzles are optional on the Range Rover Evoque to prevent washer fluid and nozzles from freezing and help continue to keep the windshield clear in sub-freezing temperatures. The X1 doesn’t offer heated windshield washer nozzles.

To improve rear visibility by keeping the rear window clear, the Range Rover Evoque has a standard rear fixed intermittent wiper with a full on position. The rear wiper standard on the X1 only has an intermittent setting, so in a hard rain visibility isn’t as good.

In poor weather, headlights can lose their effectiveness as grime builds up on their lenses. This can reduce visibility without the driver realizing. The Range Rover Evoque offers available headlight washers to keep headlight output high. The X1 doesn’t offer headlight washers.

Both the Range Rover Evoque and the X1 offer optional heated front seats. The Range Rover Evoque also offers optional heated rear seats to keep those passengers extremely comfortable in the winter. Heated rear seats aren’t available in the X1.

Optional air-conditioned seats in the Range Rover Evoque HSE keep the driver and front passenger comfortable and take the sting out of hot seats in summer. The X1 doesn’t offer air-conditioned seats.

Economic Advantages

According to The Car Book by Jack Gillis, the Range Rover Evoque is less expensive to operate than the X1 because typical repairs cost much less on the Range Rover Evoque than the X1, including $489 less for a water pump, $343 less for a muffler, $131 less for a starter, $30 less for fuel injection, $689 less for a timing belt/chain and $827 less for a power steering pump.
