The S60’s pre-crash front seatbelts will tighten automatically in the event the vehicle detects an impending crash, improving protection against injury significantly. The XF doesn’t offer pre-crash pretensioners.

For enhanced safety, the front seat shoulder belts of the Volvo S60 are height-adjustable to accommodate a wide variety of driver and passenger heights. A better fit can prevent injuries and the increased comfort also encourages passengers to buckle up. The Jaguar XF doesn’t offer height-adjustable seat belts.

The S60 has standard Automatic Braking After Collision, which automatically apply the brakes in the event of a crash to help prevent secondary collisions and prevent further injuries. The XF doesn’t offer a post collision braking system: in the event of a collision that triggers the airbags, more collisions are possible without the protection of airbags that may have already deployed.

Over 200 people are killed each year when backed over by motor vehicles. The S60 offers optional CTA Auto Brake which use rear sensors to monitor and automatically apply the brakes to prevent a rear collision. The XF doesn’t offer backup collision prevention brakes.

Both the S60 and the XF have standard driver and passenger frontal airbags, front side-impact airbags, side-impact head airbags, front and rear seatbelt pretensioners, four-wheel antilock brakes, traction control, electronic stability systems to prevent skidding, daytime running lights, available blind spot warning systems, around view monitors and rear cross-path warning.

The S60’s corrosion warranty is 6 years longer than the XF’s (12 vs. 6 years).

There are over 81 percent more Volvo dealers than there are Jaguar dealers, which makes it much easier should you ever need service under the S60’s warranty.

J.D. Power and Associates’ 2018 Initial Quality Study of new car owners surveyed provide the statistics that show that Volvo vehicles are better in initial quality than Jaguar vehicles. J.D. Power ranks Volvo 29th in initial quality. With 26 more problems per 100 vehicles, Jaguar is ranked 30th.

The S60 has more powerful engines than the XF:

                        Fuel Economy and Range

On the EPA test cycle the S60 T5 FWD gets better fuel mileage than the XF 25t RWD (24 city/36 hwy vs. 25 city/34 hwy).

The S60 T8 can drive on battery power alone for up to 14 miles. The XF must run its internal combustion engine to move.

The S60 has a standard cap-less fueling system. The fuel filler is automatically opened when the fuel nozzle is inserted and automatically closed when it’s removed. This eliminates the need to unscrew and replace the cap and it reduces fuel evaporation, which causes pollution. The XF doesn’t offer a cap-less fueling system.

                        Suspension and Handling

For better maneuverability, the ’s turning circle is 38.1 feet tighter than the XF’s ( feet vs. 38.1 feet).

The S60 is 7.6 inches shorter than the XF Sedan, making the S60 easier to handle, maneuver and park in tight spaces.

                        Cargo Capacity

Pressing a switch automatically lowers the S60’s rear seats, to make changing between passengers and cargo easier. The XF doesn’t offer automatic folding seats.

Heated windshield washer nozzles are standard on the S60 to prevent washer fluid and nozzles from freezing and help continue to keep the windshield clear in sub-freezing temperatures. Heated windshield washer nozzles cost extra on the XF.

The Volvo 60 Series outsold the Jaguar XF by almost four to one during 2017.
