The Q3’s standard front and rear disc brakes are vented to help dissipate heat for shorter stops with less fading. The rear discs on the C-HR are solid, not vented.

Tires and Wheels

For better traction, the Q3 has larger standard tires than the C-HR (235/55R18 vs. 215/60R17). The Q3’s optional tires are larger than the largest tires available on the C-HR (255/40R20 vs. 225/50R18).

The Q3’s standard tires provide better handling because they have a lower 55 series profile (height to width ratio) that provides a stiffer sidewall than the C-HR LE’s standard 60 series tires. The Q3’s optional tires have a lower 40 series profile than the C-HR XLE/Limited’s 50 series tires.

For better ride, handling and brake cooling the Q3 has standard 18-inch wheels. Smaller 17-inch wheels are standard on the C-HR LE. The Q3’s optional 20-inch wheels are larger than the 18-inch wheels on the C-HR XLE/Limited.

Suspension and Handling

For a smoother ride and more stable handling, the Q3’s wheelbase is 1.6 inches longer than on the C-HR (105.5 inches vs. 103.9 inches).

For better handling and stability, the track (width between the wheels) on the Q3 is 1.6 inches wider in the front and 1.3 inches wider in the rear than on the C-HR.

Passenger Space

The Q3 has 1.5 inches more front headroom, 7.7 inches more front shoulder room, 4.4 inches more rear legroom and 2.6 inches more rear shoulder room than the C-HR.

For enhanced passenger comfort on long trips the Q3’s rear seats recline. The C-HR’s rear seats don’t recline.

Cargo Capacity

The Q3 has a much larger cargo volume with its rear seat up than the C-HR with its rear seat up (23.7 vs. 19 cubic feet). The Q3 has a much larger cargo volume with its rear seat folded than the C-HR with its rear seat folded (48 vs. 36.4 cubic feet).

A low lift-over cargo hatch design makes loading and unloading the Q3 easier. The Q3’s cargo hatch lift-over height is 29.9 inches, while the C-HR’s liftover is 31 inches.

A standard locking glovebox keeps your small valuables safer in the Q3. The C-HR doesn’t offer locking storage for small valuables.

To make loading and unloading groceries and cargo easier, especially for short adults, the Q3 has a standard power liftgate, which opens and closes automatically by pressing a button, or optionally by just kicking your foot under the back bumper, completely leaving your hands free. The C-HR doesn’t offer a power liftgate.

Towing

The Q3 has a 1500 lbs. towing capacity. The C-HR has no towing capacity.

Servicing Ease

The Q3 uses gas struts to support the hood for easier service access. The C-HR uses a prop rod to support its heavy hood. It takes two hands to open the hood and set the prop rod, the prop rod gets in the way during maintenance and service, and the prop rod could be knocked out, causing the heavy hood to fall on the person maintaining or servicing the car.

A Service Interval Display is standard on the Q3 to save the owner time and money by calculating maintenance intervals for oil changes and vehicle inspection based on odometer mileage. This takes the guesswork out of keeping your vehicle in top condition and helps it last longer. Toyota doesn’t offer a maintenance reminder on the C-HR.

J.D. Power and Associates surveys of service recipients show that Audi service is better than Toyota. J.D. Power ranks Audi 8th in service department satisfaction (above the industry average). With a 17% lower rating, Toyota is ranked 14th.

Ergonomics

The Q3’s rain-sensitive wipers adjust their speed and turn on and off automatically based on the amount of rainfall on the windshield. This allows the driver to concentrate on driving without constantly adjusting the wipers. The C-HR’s standard manually variable intermittent wipers have to be constantly adjusted.

To shield the driver and front passenger’s vision over a larger portion of the windshield and side windows, the Q3 has standard extendable sun visors. The C-HR doesn’t offer extendable visors.

The Q3 Prestige has standard automatic dimming rear and side view mirrors which automatically darken quickly when headlights shine on them, keeping following vehicles from blinding or distracting the driver. The C-HR has an automatic rear view mirror, but its side mirrors don’t dim.

The Q3 has a standard center folding armrest for the rear passengers. A center armrest helps make rear passengers more comfortable. The C-HR doesn’t offer a rear seat center armrest.

Both the Q3 and the C-HR offer rear vents. For greater rear passenger comfort, the Q3 has standard rear air conditioning vents to keep rear occupants cool in summer or warm in winter. The C-HR doesn’t offer rear air conditioning vents, only heat vents.

The Q3 Prestige’s Park Steering Assist can parallel park or back into a parking spot by itself, with the driver only controlling speed with the brake pedal. The C-HR doesn’t offer an automated parking system.

Recommendations

Consumer Reports? recommends both the Audi Q3 and the Toyota C-HR, based on reliability, safety and performance.
